Description

This is a non-accredited course covering first aid skills for a range of injuries and illnesses, and also covers CPR for adults and infants. There are no assessments as part of this course.

Who this course is recommended for:
• People who would like to learn a broad range of first aid topics, and don't require formal certification or don't wish to complete any assessments; and
• Parents/guardians.

St John Ambulance recommends that you refresh your first aid training every 12 months. This is also in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines that state CPR skills should be refreshed annually.

Course Duration: 6 ½ hours

Overview

Content:

  • DRSABCD action plan
  • Principles of first aid and chain of survival;
  • Recovery position;
  • Adult and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR);
  • Injury management;
  • Medical conditions;
  • Use of Automated External Defibrillator; and
  • Respiratory conditions.

Management of:

  • Allergic and anaphylactic reactions;
  • Asthma;
  • Asphyxia due to body position;
  • Severe bleeding;
  • Burns;
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • Chest pain;
  • Choking and airway obstruction;
  • Drowning;
  • Snake bite management;
  • Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains;
  • Medical conditions including epilepsy, diabetes, heart attack and stroke;
  • Respiratory distress;
  • Shock;
  • Unconscious casualty; and
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries.
